James Nare Deffo

JAMES Deffo, the founder of Mphengwana Arts and Culture Productions and a teacher at New Look Primary School, has published his first book, Your Choice. His debut inspirational book was published by Information Giants Publishers, which focuses on providing practical steps for academic excellence, encouraging personal development, and inspiring people to pursue their dreams. He began his writing career while completing his matriculation.

Hailing from Jerusalem, Moletjie, Deffo started writing in 2000. His passion for education and the arts extends beyond the classroom, as he also directs events and teaches children theatre at Back To the Word International Ministry church on weekends.

In ‘Your Choice’, Deffo explores how every individual shapes their life through their choices, offering practical steps for learners to achieve academic excellence and inspiring ordinary readers to pursue their dreams.

“The title serves to remind readers to consider if their choices are the right ones,” Deffo explains. The book includes motivational quotes from figures like former Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane, encouraging readers to push beyond their comfort zones and aim high. Deffo’s book also emphasises choosing subjects that empower learners to become future employers rather than employees.

He is currently preparing to publish a Sepedi manuscript that won a poetry competition from the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture in 2019/2020.
