Koketso Tony Morwatshehla

Koketso Tony Morwatshehla is a South African writer, researcher and emerging voice in the fields of poetry, environmental sustainability and youth development. Based in Johannesburg, his work reflects an interest in society, ideas, identity and the complex questions that shape contemporary African life.

Tony’s journey combines academic development with creative expression. He graduated from the University of Venda with a Master’s degree in Rural Development in September 2026, following a period in which he also served as Managing Director of Stop The Spot Youth Organization, where he was involved in programmes centred on youth and community development.

His intellectual and creative interests extend into environmental sustainability. In 2025, Tony was selected as a fellow of the Universal Greening Organisation (UGO), a platform focused on youth leadership and the green economy. Through the fellowship, he has participated in conversations and programmes addressing climate action, African knowledge, community resilience and sustainable development. He also participated in a climate adaptation and resilience research-to-impact workshop in Ghana in 2026.

Tony is also a writer and poet. His early published writing demonstrates an interest in philosophy, ideology, culture, faith and the tensions that arise within society. His poetry and reflective writing explore questions of identity, relationships, belief and the forces that shape human behaviour.

His literary journey has continued to develop, with three books to his name, including The Dust and the Divine, which he describes as a work that weaves together different dimensions of his creative and intellectual expression.
